Honda Civic engine vibration fix

Hello people,
Long time.. no post?? its all because of my laziness :D but this one is not about computer but about my car.
It is going on winters here in Delhi and my car started showing vibrations during cold start and it was really bad and vigorous while doing reverse and it use to go away after say initial 1-2 km run.
Let me tell you about my car, its 2007 make Honda civic (India) an automatic.
Initially i thought that it will go away with time, might be due to something temporary but it was getting really annoying every morning and was not able to stand it any more so decided to get it fixed. Got to two car workshops(other than Honda authorized workshop) and they were not able to identify the issue and some said it might be the O2 sensor or the engine mount.
Honda guys said it is the mount but from the naked eye there was no damage to engine mount and the cost they said was something around 10.5 K oops. This much of cost for car vibration it was something that i thought is really expensive and being a delhite, need help now as the cost was not at all satisfying :) So i went to Palika bazar car market (opposite to the Hayat) and from there got the engine mount replaced with just a self trust that the vibration is only because of engine mount.
New engine mount cost me around Inr 3600 and Inr 300 as the labor charges and also got the front disk pads replaced(as it was due) which cost me 1500 more :)
And my car is back :)
Vibration completely gone and more effective braking now. From the service guy i cam to know that Engine mount was not damaged but got pressed (seems Honda civic engine is bit heavy for the designated mount and it is a common problem with civics in India). Please refer to pictures below.

Engine is touching the mount completely(mount hydraulics not working, needs replacement)

New engine mount replaced (and now the hydraulics will eat the vibration coming from engine) and no more vibrations

Hope this gets as help to somebody required someday.

    2. Hi

      Guys,

I hope one of you will be able to help me.. I have. 2006 Honda Civic 1.8 S MT. 42k km done. We had a flood here last week and my brother was on his way to pick me up from office. Somehow the Crank case got a hole and drained all the oil. Now one connecting rod has broken and it made holes in the bore..not sure if something has happened to engine head and valves. Do you suggest to replace the existing engine and swap it with a used one or send the bore and engine head to lathe for rebore. If we rebore the engine will it affect the longevity of the engine? What are the disadvantages of engine rebore for a Honda civic?. What might be the approximate price for repair afa. Local garage?Any help will be appreciated..

  2. Honda Civic has a problem with hydraulic mounts. i had to replace it first time in 2010 Dec (after around 23 months of use of a new car) and now I am getting it replaced once again. this is coming after 18 months. Also, the Honda dealership is haggling with me because they do not want to replace it under the extended warranty. Honda Civic is a very expensive car to maintain and people to should avoid all Honda cars altogether. Most cars these days ask for one service in a year while Honda asks for service every 6 montsh.

  3. Praveen! Thanks to your post and the pictures I was easily able to diagnose my car. I live in Chicago... Has your driver side sun visor broken yet? Those have an extended warranty since they seem to break on most civics.

  4. Ohh common for a 14 lakh car civic is very cheap... I have honda civic and prime honda ppl are wonderful, they take care of your car like a family doctor takes care of your health.. best part is they suggest changing of parts only if it is required. infact sometimes it is like i say common change the brake pads and they r like why sir? why do you wanna spend 6 grands just like that they will easily go for another 15000 k.. what else do you want.

to answer your ques abt hydraulic mounts.. they are the cheapest hydraulics in car market.. buy a skoda/VW and you will know that they define the word expensive..

  7. I just fix this today by myself, its not a hard fix if you got the right tools and the right floorjacks and stands. it is exactly like this picture now. before that my gap was right onto the black piece/mount now its higher and no vibrations.

  10. I was planning to buy a used civic, and I heard about this problem in Indian civics. Thanks to ur post I now know how to check for it and that its not a major problem if I ever face it. One question though, is there only one problematic mount or all mounts are like that. Did you change any other mount? I suppose there are 3 mounts in total for engine and gearbox
    Thanks again.

  12. Hi Praveen, I have the same issue and have to change the hydraulic mounting - could you please send me the shop's name n address - you said opp Hyatt n thats south Delhi, however Palika is in CP :) I am confused please help me out :) - Ved (ved_b@yahoo.com)

  13. Hi Ved,

Yes i am talking about a place called "Palika bhavan (not the palika in cp)" just opposite to Hayatt (after crossing the inner ring road).
Its majorly occupied with car care dealers and shops.

In downstairs, there is one shop which is very crowded and 90% of people buy motor parts from them (owned by Sardar brothers), i cant remember their shop name but it wouldn’t be that tough to find if you reach the place.

  14. Hey, can i get a clear picture as to where the market is? i need to buy an engine mount for my Civic as well.....as there is too much vibration in my car's engine also. Please tell me where did you buy the engine mount for RS.3600/-.

    Waiting for your response.

    1. Hi Nimish,

Exactly the location is just opposite to Hyatt hotel on ring road (near bhikhaji kama place). Car market is also known as palika bhawan and is completely occupied with car parts and accessories shops and jam packed cars in maintenance mode.

And you can get to the shop from where I bought mounts its in lower ground floor and shop is known as "sardar ji ke dukaan" for car parts.

I hope am able to help you here else can communicate over phone.

  16. I'm having the same issue. Vibrations in park, worsens in reverse, then somewhat goes away in drive. It tends to shake less after being driven for a little while though. What would the car warming up have to do with this decrease in vibration if it is the motor mount? Just trying to diagnose.

    1. Hi Ryan,

I use to think the same before it got fixed with mount. May be when engine does a cold start its amplitude of vibration is more and as it gets warm with run/drive, it decreases. You can ask the same from the garage guy and let us know if you get something tangible.

  18. If engine mount issue erupt within 5 years after purchasing car, Honda replaces it under warranty, Honda has also sent circular regarding same to service centers.

But service center people are reluctant to pass on this benefit to consumers.
on team-bhp.com you can find many posts with mount replaced free of cost within 5 years. Just initalte talk with service advisor and let them know that you are already knowledeeable about this issue and Honda replacement policy.

I am right now in process of getting refund of money honda charged me 2 years ago for mount replacement. they should have changed free of cost.

  19. Hello Mr praveen. I have honda civic 2007 manual. I'm facing the same issue. Honda says its the outside hydraulic mounting and gave me an absurd price. You seem to have gotten it done in a fairly low price, would you point me exactly where did you got this done from in palika? Thank you for this post. Very Helpful.

I don't have their names but you can very well find them once you reach palika bhavan car repair market just opposite to Hayat

  20. Hello Praveen, I too have Honda Civic 2007 AT and similar problem you faced with a bad engine mount. Since you installed aftermarket engine mount and not the original from Honda, I want to know which brand is it and is it still working without giving any vibrations again ? usually a new original one should last at least for 30K Kms. I am from Mumbai and I am getting NOK brand Japan for about 2200 now, is yours from the same brand ? Thanks for your post it is really very helpful to all Honda civic users.

    1. Yes it was the same NOK and it worked for me for around 50K kilometers and then got to change it again :) thats life with Honda civic

      Delete
    2. Thanks for your feedback Praveen, I went to buy this NOK make from the local market yesterday and most of the dealers said not to buy this as it does not have any oil fluid inside it and hence it will not last more then 6 months, also it may not reduce the vibration altogether after installation. Have you installed the new one NOK again ? when ? and is it serving the purpose 100% without any vibrations ? if it (NOK) works for 50K without any vibrations then it might be well worth it. Your feedback will be highly valuable.

      Delete
    3. If most of the dealers are suggesting not to buy NOK then what are other options left for you.. because i didn't heard any thing like that here.
last one (prior to current one which is installed in my car right now) did last 50K kilometers

      Delete
    4. Here 80% of the dealers are against NOK, I don't know if its a marketing gimmick, there are other ones available from Taiwan and China ranging between 2400-4400. I finally installed the Akiro brand from Taiwan at 2400 plus 400 for mechanic last week and the vibration is gone altogether and also the torque and pickup which was failing when the engine mount was bad has improved drastically. Hope this helps others too.

    5. Hi Aziz,

I know you faced this problem in 2015 and it's 2017 now, but if possible can you please tell me the shop from where you bought the mounts. I also stay in Mumbai and am facing the same problem with my Civic.

  23. 1. Woohoo thats a lot of money..
Am not sure if you have any history of hitting on RHS wheel... read my latest post here ( http://anaphoral.blogspot.in/2016/08/my-civic-and-some-very-stubbron.html )

Am not sure where you put up... but in case you are in Delhi NCR, visit Palika Bhawan, R K Puram, New Delhi

Get the brakes serviced they can also grind and clean the rotors and am sure the whole cost would not be more than 3.5K if you don't replace the brake pads.

Honda Service don't look a things if its anything on brake they just ask for whole part(s) replacement.. and the cost goes 10 folds.. If you want i can share the number of the mechanic too.. but will certainly suggests to visit a better car repair market.

  24. Hi Praveen, Very useful post and I hope many people gor the benefit from it.
I have the same problem in my 20"8 Civic and having shown in west delhi, they say if I go for chinise part it will cost 2100 rs otherwise from 7-8000 Rs and if i go to handa service centre it will be 11000 Rs. Can you please suggest which one you went for in 3600 Rs and did your replaced mounting worked well?

    1. Hello Fuzebox,

Now I can't recall the exact manufacturer name but would expect to get this thing done in 5-6k.. Looking at the inflation

Even in 7-8k costing are they providing Honda parts, I doubt that... Instead will suggest you to have a price negotiation from the sardar ji shop and get it done at a lower price and does these prices includes labor...
